Marina Tauber: Prosecutors act at the direct instruction of Maia Sandu, and the accusations against me are groundless

The vice-chairperson of the "SHOR" Party, MP Marina Tauber, claims that the head of state Maia Sandu and the chairman of the ruling party, Igor Grosu, who is also president of the Parliament, are behind the harassment and arrest. The statements were made at the Ciocana Court, where she was brought to apply on her name a 30-day arrest warrant.

Marina Tauber reiterated that she is innocent and described the materials presented by the prosecutors as totally lacking any legal basis and that her arrest is an abuse committed by the current government.

„I have no guilt I don't admit it. I am aware of the so-called materials. All that is written here are fairytales. I don't know who they're made up by, but it really is a laughing stock. We will prove our innocence. Behind these actions lies the desire of Maia Sandu and the Action and Solidarity Party to stop us and put an end to the protests. We have heard Maia Sandu and Igor Grosu's instructions to arrest me. This is what is happening”, said Marina Tauber.

Marina Tauber's lawyer told journalists that the evidence presented by the prosecutors is unfounded, speculative, refers to third parties and none of the evidence refers to Marina Tauber.

„With regret, it is a decision of the court that did not take into account the factual and legal arguments of the given case, it is an unfair, unfounded solution and obviously, it will be challenged in the superior court. It is a pity that the court did not listen to the arguments put forward, but allowed itself to be swayed by emotions and speculation which have no relation to the evidence in the case against Ms Tauber. Our great dilemma lies in the fact that there is no evidence in this file that would point to Marina Tauber as the perpetrator or accomplice in the crimes charged”, said the lawyer.

While magistrates were considering the prosecutors' request to remand Marina Tauber in custody for 30 days, several hundred people gathered outside the courthouse to support her. Protesters chanted anti-government slogans and accused the government of repressive measures against political opponents to shut them up and distract attention from the social and economic disaster that has befallen Moldova.
