Police prevents the installation of tents at anti-government protests organized by members and sympathizers of the "SHOR" Party

Several participants of the protests in support of Marina Tauber, who was arrested at the direct instruction of Maia Sandu, were prevented by police from setting up tents at the demonstrations in front of the General Prosecutor's Office. Moreover, more than 150 tents were taken away by law enforcement officials and never returned.

During Sunday's protest in front of the General Prosecutor's Office, Orhei District Chairman Dinu Turcanu drew attention to the fact that the right to protest is provided for in the Constitution and that demonstrations, including the installation of tents, should not be prevented.

„ Many people came with good thoughts to defend democracy in Moldova. Our protest is a peaceful one, within the constitutional framework. Some of our young people, who wanted to stay here overnight, either with a blanket or a tent, were detained and taken to police inspectorates. This is our right to protest and no one should stop us. Tents are not a permanent construction, they can be easily removed”, stated Dinu Turcanu.

“Shame, shame”, chanted the demonstrators, who demanded an explanation from the police for their actions.

For several consecutive days, many members and sympathizers of the "SHOR" Party have been protesting in front of the General Prosecutor's Office and demanding the resignation of the interim Prosecutor General, Dumitru Robu, who has requested the lifting of the parliamentary immunity of MP Marina Tauber and ordered her detention. According to representatives of Ilan Shor's party, Robu is acting on the direct instructions of President Maia Sandu.

Political analysts, MPs, civil society representatives condemn illegal police actions and accuse the police of violating citizens' right to protest.
