Protest at the General Prosecutor's Office. Hundreds of members and supporters of the SHOR Party demanded the release of Marina Tauber from detention and the resignation of all representatives of the government

More than a thousand people, members and supporters of the "SHOR" Party protested today in front of the General Prosecutor's Office demanding the release of the party's vice-chairperson, MP Marina Tauber, who was detained for 72 hours after the PAS parliamentary majority voted repeatedly to lift her parliamentary immunity. The demonstrators also called for an end to attacks on the "SHOR" party by the PAS government.

Participants in the protests chanted slogans demanding the resignation of the interim Prosecutor General, Dumitru Robu, as well as the resignation of President Maia Sandu, at whose initiative attacks on the "SHOR" Party are taking place.

The president of Orhei district, Dinu Turcanu, said during the protest that, at present, we are witnessing the political takeover and subjugation of all institutions of force. The situation of Marina Tauber shows that those who run the country do not understand the need for dialogue and observance of the presumption of innocence.

„The elections in Balti and what is currently happening with Marina Tauber are closely linked. After the elections in Balti, PAS began to plummet in the surveys. The latest survey shows that more than 50% of the population surveyed want early elections. That's why Marina Tauber is being harassed. Here's why the "SHOR" party is being targeted by the current government. They showed Marina Tauber just to cover the shame they felt after the publication of the opinion surveys. Remember, no one will stand in our way. We have the support of the people”, assured Dinu Turcanu.

Pavel Verejanu, mayor of Orhei municipality, also noted that the government uses the institutions of power as a political bully to get rid of the opposition.

„We are witnessing political debauchery and persecution of the opposition. Maia Sandu's servant is not doing his job to uncover the fraudulent schemes, to bring money to the budget, but they have taken up with Marina Tauber and Ilan Shor again. This is despite the fact that the former prosecutor-general admitted that the case against Marina Tauber was political and apologised. Those in government do not feel comfortable when they see that we, being in opposition, come up with many projects to improve the situation in the country. They can't stand an opposition that exposes the government's misdeeds”, mentioned Pavel Verejanu.

The protest was also attended by several residents of Balti and other localities in the country, who demanded the release of Marina Tauber and declared their solidarity with her. Mayors from villages in the Orhei district also took part in the demonstration. They asked the representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in our country to pay special attention to what is happening to an opposition leader.

„ We draw the attention of the diplomatic corps and international organisations. An opposition leader is detained and questioned for taking part in a peaceful protest on 19 June in the Grand National Assembly Square. An opposition leader is arrested and everyone is silent! Honorable representatives of European institutions, ambassadors, including the US, is this normal, what is happening now before our eyes? Why do you accept this? No one has come out with a press release of solidarity. This is alarming. Honourable diplomats, I want to tell you that the ideas you promote such as human rights, freedom, European integration are compromised by your silence. No one in this country will believe these lies. Everyone knows that the country is under dictatorship", said Radu Busila, mayor of Piatra commune in Orhei district.
